Install Kernel 5.15 on Ubuntu / Debian and Linux Mint
In this tutorial, I am using the Ubuntu Kernel PPA file which is offered by Ubuntu developers. However, these kernel packages are not signed. This means that they cannot be installed on Secure Boot / UEFI Systems if Secure Boot is enabled.
Secure Boot is a feature of Ubuntu and Debian that helps to protect your computer from unauthorized access. It works by encrypting the contents of your computer’s memory before it is stored on your hard drive. If someone were to try to access your computer without Secure Boot enabled, they would be unable to do so.
Installing Kernel 5.15 is very easy, just follow these simple steps:
- Download the latest Linux Kernel Version
- Extract the kernel to your home directory
- Install the kernel by running the following command:
- Reboot your computer
If you downloaded the kernel package from a different location, make sure that only the kernel package is available in that location.
sudo apt-get install kernel-devel
That’s it, once the package is installed, just reboot your system. The latest 5.15 Linux Kernel will be installed. Enjoy, you have successfully installed the latest version of Linux kernel 5.15 LTS and your new features.
