We were able to return to pairing mode by pressing the Bluetooth button on the tiny provided remote, but we had to look up how to accomplish this via the speaker in the user manual. To enter pairing mode again, you must push and hold the volume knob, and it appears that doing so also disconnects other devices. The midrange in the Edifier R1700BT is warm and richly detailed, making it great for vocals. The treble edge is slight, but it’s not so sharp that it becomes harsh. The sound is neither the clearest nor most open, but the dynamics are pleasantly smooth. The R1700BTs are neither tiny nor enormous, so their sound has a respectable degree of weight. It imparts a satisfyingly substantial feeling to drum beats, piano clunks, and guitar plucks.
The Edifiers fall short in this area because they do not handle bass well. Whether you’re listening to First Aid Kit’s folky My Silver Lining or the angsty ballad Eye by Smashing Pumpkins, the basslines stand out so much that they almost overshadow the speakers’ overall performance. Additionally, the issue is not one of volume. Even at lower volumes, you can still hear the awkward bassline thudding almost comically. It is the only flaw in a generally interesting and enjoyable performance.

We think that the price of these speakers is reasonable given how great they sound and how well they connect to other devices. However, if you’re looking for a very affordable speaker, we recommend looking elsewhere.
Conclusion
We would be thrilled to make them the focal point of our living room if they were a full-size speaker, but as they are just a somewhat modest 25 cm high, we are perfectly content to have them grace our desktop. They are almost perfect because they have Bluetooth for increased convenience and a very affordable price of about $149.99.
