This dataset contains information on your WhatsApp users in 84 countries and the phone numbers from its 32 million users in the US, 11 million of it in the UK and over 10 million of its users in Russia.
According to the hackers, they have access to these numbers because they hacked into the phone systems of these countries. They claim that they have access to these numbers because they are working for a foreign government or organization.
The hacker allegedly sold discs in the United States for $7,000, in the United Kingdom for $2,500 and in Germany for $2,000.
We were able to contact the hackers and collect samples of their data. We found that the joint sample contained 1,097 UK and 817 US user numbers. All were active WhatsApp users.
The hackers accessed the data of WhatsApp users by using their strategy and all the numbers belonged to their own user, suggesting that they obtained the data through some other means.
This database can be used by hackers to find and steal personal information from people.
WhatsApp offers several privacy settings that users can enable to protect themselves from prying eyes, such as hiding their status and profile picture. By disabling these privacy settings, users can reduce the chances of their information being accessed by third-party developers or hackers.
