Microsoft has removed some of the features from its Elite controller, including the carrying case, cradle, rear paddles, and alternate steering pads. The removal of these features is strange, as the connections to these devices remain on the back of the controller and it looks a bit bare without them.

The Elite Core has two three-way locking switches to shorten trigger throws. However, it also has contacts for a charging dock that is not included, as well as four small buttons and slots for removable palettes that are also not included. The buttons are designed for use with the Elite’s metal paddles, and while you can awkwardly press them with your fingertips, they’re too flat and small to be used reliably without the paddles.

The Elite: accessories are different. The Elite has rear paddles, alternate analog sticks, and a plus-shaped directional pad. The controller comes with a charging cradle and carrying case, but it doesn’t come with any extra parts.

The Elite Core is a peripheral that is designed to work with Windows PCs and Xbox consoles. It uses the Xbox wireless connection to reduce latency and allow for use of the headphone jack. If you want to use it wirelessly with your PC, you will need to use Bluetooth or find a new hard-to-find Xbox wireless adapter. ..

The Xbox Accessories app for Windows and Xbox offers a variety of customization options for the Elite Core controller. These options include remapping buttons, adjusting sensitivity curves, setting dead zones for triggers, and changing the colors of Guide button LEDs. The app is an advantage over using a standard Xbox controller because it doesn’t offer these same options.
